Medicare for Veterans

VA benefits and Medicare work better together when you understand how they coordinate.

VA and Medicare are separate systems

The VA does not pay Medicare cost-sharing, and Medicare does not pay at VA facilities. That is why many veterans use both: VA for routine or service-connected care, and Medicare (with Advantage or Medigap) for non-VA doctors, specialists, travel, and emergencies.

Common paths we help veterans evaluate

Medicare Advantage + VA

Extra benefits (dental, vision, OTC, transportation) while keeping VA access. Strong option for dual-eligible veterans and those with chronic conditions.

Original Medicare + Medigap + VA

Maximum provider flexibility nationwide. Good when you travel or want any Medicare-accepting doctor without network limits.

Dual-eligible (Medicare + Medicaid)

Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs) can coordinate benefits and often include stronger supplemental packages and $0 premiums.

Local partnership focus

We work with veterans through local organizations including DAV Chapter 16, VFW posts, and the American Legion. The goal is education first — then the right coverage when you are ready.
